Tauna's Medieval Sources

This is the information I have gathered over the years from the SCA, Markland Medieval Militia and Academic sources. I 've been out of the loop for a bit but am coming back into it again so if you see something that needs updating or if you have anything to add or any corrections, I'd be happy to hear from you!

My favorite area of the medieval world is the Byzantine Empire. Actually they called themselves the Rhomanoi, or citizens of the continuing Roman Empire.

Medieval Cooking

One area of interest for me is cooking. I have a bunch of recipes that I have used over the years for feasts, which have come from Medieval sources. They are presented in original form, direct translations and useful modern recipes.

The Society for Creative Anachronism

The SCA is a group that re-creates various aspects of the Middle Ages, through Arts, Crafts and Simulated Combats.

From there you can find the local group you are in. I live in the Crown Province of Ostgardr in the Canton of Whyt Whey.

Every year 9,000+ people gather at Cooper's Lake Campground for the Pennisc Wars. Newcomers need to be prepared, so read the Rialto (rec.org.sca in USENET starting in May. Also read Humor List for a tongue in cheek look at what you can expect. Pennsic.net has continual unoffical Pennsic news through the year and PennsicWar.org has the Official information.

    Tributes to departed Friends

In January of 2003, a dear friend, Etienne Des Nuages passed away. He was a wonderful person with a quick (somtimes scathing) wit, vast tailoring skills and a wonderful heart. I will miss him dreadfully...

On December 20, 2004, Baron Eirik Rodbjorn passed from this world. A sad loss for the Swamp and the East.

Not a passing but a call for help. Dr. Paul Halsall, the man who runs the Internet History Sourcebooks Project has run into some trouble. To learn more and hopefully help the man who has helped us.
